ΟΙ ΑΠΕΡΑΝΤΕΣ ΘΑΛΑΣΣΕΣ - THE BOUNDLESS SEAS - ΜΕΡΟΣ 2 - ΔΙΑΡΚΕΙΑ 25΄

"Boundless Seas Part 2."
The Continental Shelf & the continental slope holds oil, gas & minerals. Changing seasons in the ocean are much the same as on land. Kelp provides food and protection. Ocean holds a variety of creatures- some float and never swim, some live in the bottom sands, some adhere to rocks and take on the color of them. Life in the ocean begins with food called phytoplankton.
Holoplankton are the 2nd part of the food chain in the sea. They eat the phytoplankton and turn plants into animal protein. Here tiny krill feed on the phytoplankton, these krill are eaten by squid and small fish and so on and so on. Fish that people fear- the shark although shark attacks on men are rare. Migrations- green sea turtle goes all the way to the same island every year to lay its eggs. Sea mammals- sea lions, otters, seals, dolphins, whales, etc...
Man throughout the ages has felt the need to explore the oceans even the North & South Poles and Antarctica- penguins are here. Farming fish is a way to make sure that fish supply does not become depleted. Kelp is also harvested. 7 miles down into the ocean we find many valuable minerals.
